Pret A Manger - Barista
A Pret Barista works as part of a team in a Pret shop to ensure all Barista-prepared drinks are served to the required Pret standard.
The role focuses on delivering excellent quality in Barista-prepared drinks, sharing knowledge, understanding, and providing amazing service with Pret “Buzz”. It involves efficient back counter operation, cleanliness, maintenance, and team training, ensuring customers always receive the drink they expect.
The Barista is an integral part of the shop team and will carry out Team Member Star duties as appropriate to business needs.
Right Pret People: Barista Prepared Drink Training
- Coach and train Team Member Star Coffee and Baristas in Training on Barista Prepared Drinks and standards.
- Liaise with the TMT to ensure all Barista prepared drink training is planned and executed appropriately.
- Conduct Coffee team briefs and attend relevant meetings, courses, and conferences related to Barista Prepared Drinks.
- Ensure all hot drink training materials are current and available.
- Follow Pret’s dress code and maintain a professional appearance, always wearing the correct Barista uniform.
Amazing Service: Creating Pret Buzz
- Engage positively with customers and team about Pret’s Coffee Story and Coffee Menu.
- Call down the queue to manage customer waiting times.
- Serve Barista Prepared Drinks promptly.
- Ensure clear, appropriate, and consistent coffee calling.
- Impress customers with latte art.
Delicious Food & Drink: Quality & Knowledge
- Prepare all Barista Drinks to Pret standards.
- Model coffee knowledge and stay informed about Pret’s Barista Drinks and standards.
- Communicate confidently about Pret’s Barista Drinks and standards.
- Maintain milk and coffee quality through tasting and weighing.
- Monitor results of Coffee Confidence visits and Mystery Shopper reviews.
- Update team on new product launches and standard updates.
- Report ingredient quality issues to your Manager.
- Understand and be familiar with product names and standards used by other retailers.
Well Loved Shop: Counter Operation, Cleanliness & Maintenance
- Maintain equipment, Barista box, and perform daily & weekly checks to Pret standards.
- Maintain cleanliness of the counter, viewing it through a customer’s perspective.
- Follow the 5 point check to ensure readiness for service.
- Perform log checks, thermometer calibrations, and dribble tests as per standards.
- Model health & safety and food safety standards in accordance with law and Pret policies.
- Take responsibility for following Food Safety Standards and ensuring safety of self, team, and customers, reporting issues immediately.
Shop Profitability: Managing Waste
- Control waste levels of Barista ingredients.
- Address stock variances and waste issues as directed by your Manager.
Growing Sales: Maximising Drink Sales
- Set and share weekly sales targets with the team.
- Monitor sales versus total shop sales and product mix.
- Ensure sufficient stock of ingredients, packaging, and equipment.
- Use promotional waste to sample and recognize regular customers, increasing sales via Joy of Pret.
