A Pret Barista works as part of a team in a Pret shop to ensure all Barista-prepared drinks are served to the required Pret standard.
The role of the Barista ensures excellent quality, knowledge, understanding, and service with Pret “Buzz”. The Barista maintains efficient back counter operations, cleanliness, maintenance, and team training, guaranteeing customers always receive the drink they expect.
The Barista is an integral part of the shop team and will carry out Team Member Star duties as appropriate to business needs.
Right Pret People: Barista Prepared Drink Training
- To coach and train Team Member Star Coffee and Baristas in Training on Barista Prepared Drinks and standards.
- To liaise with the TMT to ensure all Barista prepared drink training is planned and executed appropriately.
- To conduct Coffee team briefs and attend relevant meetings, courses, and conferences related to Barista Prepared Drinks.
- To ensure all hot drink training materials are current and accessible.
- To follow Pret’s dress code and maintain an immaculate appearance, always wearing the correct Barista uniform.
- To positively engage with customers and the team about Pret’s Coffee Story and Coffee Menu to promote Pret Buzz.
- To manage queues effectively and serve Barista Prepared Drinks promptly.
- To ensure clear, appropriate, and consistent coffee calling for customers and team.
- To impress customers with latte art.
Delicious Food & Drink: Quality & Knowledge
- To prepare all Barista Drinks to Pret standards.
- To demonstrate and maintain knowledge of Pret’s Barista Drinks and standards.
- To confidently communicate key messages about Pret’s Barista Drinks.
- To maintain milk and coffee quality through tasting and weighing relevant drinks.
- To be responsible for Coffee Confidence visits, Mystery Shopper, and 3D Review results.
- To update the team on new product launches and standard updates for Barista Drinks.
- To report ingredient quality issues to your Manager.
- To understand and be familiar with Barista Drinks products in other retailers.
Well-Loved Shop: Counter Operation, Cleanliness & Maintenance
- To maintain equipment, Barista box, and perform daily & weekly checks to Pret standards.
- To view the counter through a customer’s eyes and keep it clean as you go.
- To perform the 5 point check to ensure readiness.
- To carry out log checks, thermometer calibrations, and dribble tests as per Pret standards.
- To adhere to health & safety and food safety standards lawfully and according to Pret policies.
- I am responsible for following Food Safety Standards and ensuring the safety of myself, my team, and customers. I complete all necessary training and immediately report any standards or process breaches to my Manager.
Shop Profitability: Waste Control
- To manage waste levels of Barista Drinks ingredients.
- To address stock variances and waste issues related to Barista Drinks as directed by your Manager.
Growing Sales: Maximising Barista Prepared Drinks Sales
- To set and share weekly sales targets with the team.
- To monitor sales versus total shop sales and the product mix.
- To ensure adequate stock of ingredients, packaging, and equipment.
- To use promotional waste to sample products and recognize regular customers with appropriate volume of drinks via Joy of Pret.
