Role: Banking Operations Team Leader

Ready to take charge in a dynamic finance team where you’ll lead the way in processing billions of pounds across a vast network of bank accounts? If you’re a driven professional with a knack for precision and a passion for financial operations, we want you!

As ourBanking Operations Team Leader, you’ll head up the Head Office Banking team, overseeing a high-performing group responsible for managing over£4 billion in payments annually across100+ bank accounts. Your leadership will ensure seamless, timely, and secure processing of payments and bank reconciliations that are essential to supporting Next's Retail, Online, and Total Platform Partner businesses.

What You’ll Do

  1. Lead & Inspire: Manage and motivate a team of 4, ensuring accurate payment processing, smooth reconciliations, and adherence to Next’s finance policies.
  2. Maintain Integrity: Oversee the integrity of cash books, ensuring bank statements reconcile with the general ledger to safeguard our financial accuracy.
  3. Process Payments: Lead payment processing and approval across multiple banking platforms, handling everything from BACS and Faster Payments to high-value, priority transactions.
  4. Drive Efficiency: Identify opportunities for streamlining processes, and bring innovative ideas to elevate how we handle payments and reconciliations.
  5. Manage Queries: Tackle and escalate payment issues, collaborating with internal departments and third-party providers to resolve them quickly and accurately.
  6. Month-End Master: Take charge of month-end reconciliations, revaluations, and ensure smooth transitions into each new cycle.
  7. Ensure Compliance: Oversee compliance, ensuring the correct authorisation and security standards are in place for all payments, including those involving foreign exchange and high-value transfers.

What You Bring

  1. Leadership Experience: Proven background in leading teams within a fast-paced, high-volume banking operations or treasury environment.
  2. Attention to Detail: You’re detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and a commitment to accuracy.
  3. Technical Know-How: Intermediate Excel skills and familiarity with multi-currency banking operations are essential.
  4. Adaptable Approach: With a flexible and proactive mindset, you’re ready to respond to the ever-evolving demands of a dynamic finance environment.
  5. Strong Communicator: Able to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management, to drive results and resolve issues.
