Spire Little Aston Hospital in the Midlands is seeking an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Theatre Department on a Bank basis. The CNS will act as the clinical expert and resource for the cancer team, delivering specialist care to patients undergoing cancer treatment and supporting discharge planning.

You will work with Consultants and multidisciplinary colleagues, undertake holistic needs assessments, maintain documentation, and promote evidence-based practice.

Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse with valid NMC registration.
• Extensive knowledge and senior-level experience in cancer services.
• Post-registration competency in UKONS 24 Hour triage tool.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills; able to work with minimal supervision.
• Proficient with MS Office, internet and email; computer literate.
• Knowledge/qualification in palliative care.

Responsibilities

• Manage direct patient care and be responsible for a clinical caseload, safely administering SACT.
• Collaborate with Consultants and other CNS' to deliver patient care.
• Maintain accurate documentation of clinical activities.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to meet patient needs and discharge planning.
• Offer holistic needs assessments and refer to Level 3 or 4 psychological care as needed.

Duties and responsibilities:

Clinical Nurse Specialist will act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the multi-professional team, patients and carers.

• Management of direct patient care and to be responsible for a clinicalcaseload and safely administer SACT.
• To work closely with other site-specific Consultants, CNS’ and work as a team.
• Maintain accurate and concise documentation in relation to clinical activities.
• Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies both within and out of the hospital setting to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.
• Provide professional support tocolleagues working within thecancer unitsetting.
• To offer patients a Holistic Needs Assessment at relevant points in their pathway. To provide a care plan and if identified referral to Level 3 or Level 4 psychological care providers.
• Provide specialist advice which is evidence based to deliver clinically effective care to cancer patients and their families in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
• Promote a culture of respectful relationships through professional role modelling conveying the principles required for nurses to improve the patients experience e.g. Pre-SACT consultation, understanding and involving patients in their care.

Who we're looking for:

• Registered General Nurse with valid NMC registration
• Demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience of working at a senior level within cancer services
• Demonstrate considerable post registration competency in the UKONS 24 Hour triage tool
• Post registration course within cancer care desirable
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to organise work around competing demands on time
• Demonstrate that can work with minimal supervision
• Demonstrate computer literacy skills including use of Microsoft Office software packages, internet & email
• Demonstrate knowledge/qualification in palliative care
