Job summary

Elysium Healthcare is hiring a Bank Painter and Decorator at Thornford Park Hospital to lead decorating tasks, prepare surfaces for painting, and apply finishes using brushes, rollers or sprayers. You will work flexibly to meet project timelines while following safety practices on-site at the hospital.

The role requires previous painting and decorating experience, strong communication with colleagues and patients, and a valid UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in Painting and Decorating
• Face-to-face experience of dealing with people
• Ability to work under pressure and respond to requests from the Regional Facilities Manager
• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Responsibilities

• Leading all decorating tasks
• Proper preparation of surfaces for painting
• Applying paint, varnish and other finishes using brushes, rollers, or sprayers
• Repairing and maintaining painted surfaces, including touch-ups and refinishing
• Ensuring all decorating work is completed to a high standard and within project timelines
• Assisting with the selection and procurement of painting and decorating materials through the correct protocol
• Maintaining a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are stored
• Following health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
• Assisting in regular checks, repairs, and maintenance of all buildings
• Assisting the maintenance team and covering maintenance duties when needed
• Coordinating and chaperoning contractors on-site, completing required paperwork

Your responsibilities will include:

• Repairing and maintaining painted surfaces, including touch-ups and refinishing
• Ensuring all decorating work is completed to a high standard and within project timelines
• Assisting with the selection and procurement of painting and decorating materials through the correct protocol
• Maintaining a clean and organized work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored
• Following health and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment
• Assisting in regular checks, repairs, and maintenance of all buildings
• Assisting the maintenance team where required and cover maintenance duties for periods of absence
• Assisting with coordinating and chaperoning contractors on-site, completing any required paperwork

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

Where you will be working:

Thornford Park is a141bed hospital set within 21 acres of Berkshire countryside, offering a seamless care pathway across medium and low secure services, psychiatric intensive care units (PICUs), and rehabilitation flats. The site supports men and women with complex Mental Health needs, Personality Disorders, Learning Disabilities, and Autism—often with histories of offending or previous placement challenges.

Services include:

• Medium & Low Secure Units for acute and long-term care
• PICUs for individuals in psychiatric crisis
• Older Adult Services with age-appropriate, holistic interventions
• Specialist Learning Disability & Autism Pathways with integrated secure settings and step-down flats

You’ll be part of a recovery-focused, multidisciplinary team helping people move safely toward greater independence. Thornford Park is easily accessible via Thatcham train station, with shuttle transport available.
