Job summary

Handsale Ltd is recruiting a Kitchen Assistant for Westerfield Care Home to join our team on bank hours. You will assist in food preparation, cooking and serving meals, plus cleaning duties to keep the kitchen and dining areas safe and orderly.

We require a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, team spirit, and a satisfactory police check. The role involves following health and safety protocols, attending mandatory training, and supporting a high standard of care for residents.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the Food Preparation, cooking and serving of meals.
• Wash up after meals; ensure crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area is carried out effectively.
• Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.
• Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as required.
• Report illness or accidents to the Home Manager or Person in Charge.
• Implement and monitor Care Centre Health and Safety policy; report faults or hazards.
• Promote safe working practices and the centre’s good reputation.
• Ensure confidentiality of information gained in the course of duty.
• Notify absence and ensure security of the Care Centre.
• Adhere to company policies and procedures; keep equipment clean and maintained.
• Carry out any other tasks reasonably assigned.

Job description

We are actively hiring for professional and experienced Kitchen Assistant to join our team.

This role is for Bank hours.

Assist in the Food Preparation, cooking and serving of meals.

Wash up after meals. Ensure all crockery and equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately, and that the overall cleaning of the kitchen area (and, where appropriate, the dining areas) is carried out effectively.

Ensure statutory Health and Safety standards in the kitchen and dining areas.

Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.

Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another.

Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Care Centre’s Health and Safety policy, and Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.

Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre.

Promote and ensure the good reputation of the Care Centre.

Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.

Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.

Ensure the security of the Care Centre is maintained at all times

Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.

Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.

Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

Basic Food Hygiene Certificate

Team player

Satisfactory Police Check and check against the POVA List (where applicable)

Experience of food preparation for the relevant Client group
