Job summary

Excelcare Holdings is seeking an experienced Bank Cook for Sherrell House Care Home in Chigwell, Essex. You will prepare nutritious meals, plan weekly menus, and work with staff to meet dietary needs while maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.

The role offers shifts across Monday to Sunday, with 0-hour contracts and the opportunity to pick up shifts as needed. Starting times from 7am and competitive pay of £14.90–£17.30 per hour reflect experience and qualifications.

Qualifications

• Experience of cooking for large numbers
• NVQ Level 2 in catering and hospitality
• 2 years’ experience in a catering environment
• 12 months experience in managing a kitchen
• Excellent interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook nutritious meals using fresh ingredients for residents
• Schedule weekly meal menus, considering individual dietary requirements
• Coordinate with Home Manager to order stock within budget
• Work with healthcare professionals to align meal plans with support plans and risk assessments
• Maintain quality assurance systems in the kitchen
• Supervise other kitchen team members
• Adhere to Health & Safety, COSHH and contamination guidelines and promote independence and dignity of residents

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and creative Bank Cook to join our Sherrell House Care Home, Chigwell, Essex. You will become part of a compassionate and welcoming team providing physical, emotional, and social support and most importantly outstanding meal experiences for the people living in our care home. • Salary: £14.90-17.30 per hour depending on experience and qualifications
• Shifts as and when required between Monday and Sunday
• Hours start from 7am
• 0 hour contract. You will be able to pick up shifts as and when available to cover sickness, annual leave, vacancies etc.

About the role:

• As the Care Home Cook, you will be required to prepare and cook nutritious meals using fresh ingredients.
• Schedule weekly meal menus, paying attention to individual dietary requirements
• Work with the Home Manager to ensure that ordering of stock is in line with budgetary requirements.
• Work with healthcare professionals involved in the support of people living in our care homes to ensure meal plans and dietary requirements fall into individuals support plans and risk assessments.
• Maintain quality assurance systems within the kitchen
• Undertake supervision of other kitchen team members
• Have a full understanding of Health & Safety as well as Food Hygiene issues, COSHH, and working within the guidelines relating to contamination and cross infection.
• You will be involved in meaningful activities with the people living in our care home as well as always promoting independence, choice, dignity, and respect
