Job summary

Excelcare is seeking an experienced Chef to join Stanley Wilson Lodge Care Home in Saffron Walden, Essex. You will prepare nutritious meals for residents, plan weekly menus, and manage kitchen duties to meet budget and safety standards.

The role is on-site with shifts 7:00am–4:00pm, mainly covering sickness and holidays, and offers benefits including DBS funding, paid uniform, and a Refer a Friend scheme. Join a compassionate team committed to dignity and quality care.

Qualifications

• Experience of cooking for large numbers.
• NVQ Level 2 in catering and hospitality.
• 2 years’ experience in a catering environment.
• 12 months experience in managing a kitchen.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook nutritious meals using fresh ingredients.
• Schedule weekly meal menus, considering individual dietary requirements.
• Work with the Home Manager to ensure stock ordering aligns with budget.
• Coordinate with healthcare professionals to align meal plans with support plans.
• Maintain quality assurance in the kitchen.
• Supervise other kitchen team members.
• Understand Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, COSHH, and contamination controls.
• Promote independence, choice, dignity and respect in residents’ activities.

We are looking for an experienced and creative Chef to join our Stanley Wilson Lodge Care Home in Saffron Walden, Essex. • 0 hours per week - Zero hours contract
• Shifts from 7:00am - 4:00pm As and when required by the home
• This role is to cover sickness and holidays

About the role:

• As the Care Home Chef, you will be required to prepare and cook nutritious meals using fresh ingredients.
• Schedule weekly meal menus, paying attention to individual dietary requirements
• Work with the Home Manager to ensure that ordering of stock is in line with budgetary requirements.
• Work with healthcare professionals involved in the support of people living in our care homes to ensure meal plans and dietary requirements fall into individuals support plans and risk assessments.
• Maintain quality assurance systems within the kitchen
• Undertake supervision of other kitchen team members
• Have a full understanding of Health & Safety as well as Food Hygiene issues, COSHH, and working within the guidelines relating to contamination and cross infection.
• You will be involved in meaningful activities with the people living in our care home as well as always promoting independence, choice, dignity, and respect
