Job description

Overview

Urgent and emergency medicine are seeking a dynamic general manager to lead our Emergency Medicine department at Barnet. With a brand new building we are seeking a forward thinking, experienced performance focussed individual to deliver an ambitious UEC portfolio which will include SDEC, UTC, Ambulance handover and Paediatric ED.

Responsibilities

• Reporting to the DDO, the postholder will provide operational leadership for the directorate’s services, ensuring delivery within agreed budgets, activity levels, and standards of clinical quality.
• This senior role supports the DD and DDO across all sites where divisional services operate, with a primary base at one site but requiring travel for visibility across the division.
• The postholder holds delegated responsibility for operational management, implementing national and local strategies, and achieving service objectives within available resources.
• Working closely with senior clinical and non-clinical leaders, they will drive effective leadership, management, and capacity to support transformation and service delivery.
• They will ensure decisions made by the DDO are translated into action and key programmes are delivered successfully.
• As part of the directorate triumvirate with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Director, the General Manager will foster staff engagement in delivering divisional strategy.
• The role includes deputising for the DDO and providing cross-cover for other General Managers within the division.
