Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Estates Manager to lead the operational estates function across the Solihull Hospital Site This is a pivotal role within one of the largest NHS Trusts in England, where your leadership will directly impact the safety, compliance, and efficiency of our healthcare estate.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Is
  • Technically Skilled, degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. mechanical, electrical, or building engineering); experienced in managing complex estates operations in a healthcare or similar environment; knowledgeable in statutory compliance, including asbestos, water safety, and H&S legislation.
  • A strong leader, able to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage performance effectively; confident in making decisions under pressure and managing crises; and skilled in stakeholder engagement, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Analytical & Organised, capable of interpreting complex technical and financial data; experienced contract management, including procurement and tendering; and proficient in using IT systems
  • Professional & Personable, a clear communicator, able to present complex information to diverse audiences; committed to continuous improvement and professional development; and resilient, adaptable, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

The Estates Manager will be accountable for statutory Compliance; operational site leadership; managing the day-to-day estates functions across the Solihull site, including mechanical, electrical, and building services; line managing Estates Officers and supporting their development through training, PDRs, and performance management; managing budgets, procurement, and financial reporting for estates services and projects; and risk and safety management. The role will act as the site lead for asbestos and deputy responsible person for water safety and contribute to the Trust's long-term infrastructure planning.

  • Experience of effectively managing resources/assets and meeting financial targets for multi stranded services.
  • Evidence of successfully delivering value for money initiatives.
  • In depth knowledge health & safety legislation knowledge and their application in an estates department.
  • Specialist and up to date knowledge of own area of expertise, including associated legislation and regulation, including asbestos management, water safety and HSAW.

Desirable

  • Minimum of five years Management experience at a senior level within a large multidisciplinary service Organisation.
  • Experience of specifying, tendering, evaluating and procuring services and goods in accordance with EU and local regulations.
  • Experience of working alongside external bodies such as other NHS Trusts, HSE, and other similar national forums and agencies.
  • Evidence of improving service delivery.
  • Knowledge of KSF, Investors in People and PDRS process.
