Job summary

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting a senior NHS operational manager to lead non-elective, emergency and specialist women’s services across its two main sites, KGH Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital Romford.

You will shape strategic direction, drive performance and improvements in urgent care pathways, and collaborate with consultants, matrons and nursing teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

Job description

Women’s Health: Service Manager – Non-Elective, Emergency and Specialist Women’s Services

This senior operational leadership role provides strategic direction, visible leadership and day-to-day management of Gynaecology and Maternity non-elective, emergency and specialist services across BHRUT’s main sites.

As part of the Women’s Health leadership team, you will help deliver outstanding care and continuous improvement across urgent and specialist pathways, including acute gynaecology, maternity emergencies, early pregnancy complications and complex needs. You will ensure timely access to safe, high-quality, patient-centred care.

You will lead with credibility and compassion in a fast-paced environment, promoting accountability, collaboration and innovation. Working closely with consultants, matrons, midwives, specialist nurses, corporate teams and external partners, you will support seamless service delivery.

You will oversee operational performance against quality, access, workforce and financial objectives, and lead transformation programmes that improve patient flow, experience and clinical outcomes. In partnership with clinical leaders, you will redesign pathways and develop sustainable models of care responsive to population needs.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
