What will you be doing in this Biomedical Scientist role?

As a Biomedical Scientist in Histology, you will have good knowledge of laboratory informatics systems. On a day to day basis you will be supporting the senior biomedical scientists in the delivery of the service and providing guidance to junior members of staff.

Essential Requirements for this Biomedical Scientist position :
  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
  • MSc approved by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and / or Fellowship of the IBMS or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma
  • Wide knowledge of histopathology techniques, including Health & Safety, legal and administrative requirements
  • Substantial experience as a Chief BMS (Band 8a)
  • Management / leadership qualification
  • Chartered Scientist
  • Good knowledge of laboratory informatics systems
  • Possess financial and budgetary awareness
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Use of the Winpath LIMS (laboratory information management system)
  • Previous involvement in design and roll out of laboratory informatics system
  • Knowledge of mortuary procedures
  • Knowledge of cytology procedures
  • Experience in equipment selection and preparation of business cases
  • Manual dexterity in use of microtomes and performance of specimen dissection
  • Unavoidable exposure to potentially dangerous biological specimens (HIV, Hep B&C +ve etc)
  • Daily use of manual techniques involving the use of potentially hazardous chemicals and reagents
