Job summary

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Band 6 Therapeutic Radiographer to join the Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria in Carlisle. The role focuses on leadership, clinical development, and delivering high-quality cancer care.

You will work with VMAT, SABR, IGRT, SGRT and MRI-based planning, contributing to service transformation and staff development within a forward-thinking radiotherapy service across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• BSc in Radiotherapy or equivalent qualification.
• State registration with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) through postgraduate training.
• Willing to undertake further education relevant to the post.
• Specialist knowledge in radiotherapy techniques across a broad range and developments in the field.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership to a radiography team, ensuring high standards of practice and patient-centred care.
• Be accountable for safe, accurate delivery of radiotherapy treatments.
• Deliver and support complex radiotherapy procedures including localisation, IGRT, dose calculation, verification, and delivery.
• Work autonomously following departmental protocols and national guidance.
• Achieve workload targets and service objectives through effective resource use.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and adoption of new techniques.
• Support staff and students’ education and development.

Join a progressive and innovative radiotherapy service at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria (NCCC-NS), Carlisle. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Therapeutic Radiographer to further develop their career within a department committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care. We are a forward-thinking service with a strong programme of innovation, including MRI-based planning and Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT). As part of our continued development, we are preparing to introduce online adaptive radiotherapy, creating exciting opportunities for staff to develop advanced clinical skills and contribute to service transformation. We are expanding our pre-treatment workforce and are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our small, friendly, and supportive team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the preparation, simulation, planning imaging, and treatment verification processes for approximately 1,200 patients each year across adult cancer services. Our department employs a wide range of advanced radiotherapy techniques, including VMAT, SABR, respiratory gating, and SGRT, supported by Siemens CT and MRI scanners and Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Therapeutic Radiographer to join the Northern Centre for Cancer Care-North Cumbria in Carlisle. This role offers the opportunity to develop specialist clinical, technical, and leadership skills within a large and innovative radiotherapy service. The successful candidate will:

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day leadership and support to a team of radiographers within their designated clinical area, ensuring the highest standards of technical practice, patient safety, and patient-centred care.
• Be accountable for the safe and accurate delivery of radiotherapy treatments within their clinical area.
• Deliver and support complex radiotherapy procedures, including localisation, image guidance, dose calculation, treatment verification, and treatment delivery.
• Practice autonomously and professionally in accordance with departmental protocols, national guidance, and professional standards.
• Ensure workload targets, quality standards, and service objectives are achieved through the effective use of available resources.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and the implementation of new techniques and technologies.
• Support the education, supervision, and development of staff and students, fostering a positive learning environment.
• Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic patient care and provide specialist advice, information, and support to patients, relatives, and carers throughout their treatment journey.
