Job summary

Unlocking Language in the United Kingdom is seeking a HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist to support children across complex needs educational settings and mainstream schools.

You will assess and treat SLCN, develop AAC strategies, and contribute to EHCP reviews while collaborating with teachers, parents and other professionals in a structured, supportive MDT environment.

Qualifications

  • HCPC registered SLT with degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Experience in a special school or settings with complex communication needs.
  • Strong teamwork within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and experience of AAC.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, diagnose, and provide therapy for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).
  • Autism and medical complex needs setting (PMLD secondary).
  • Deliver therapy sessions individually and in groups, adapting interventions to students' needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, parents and other professionals to support progress.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies, including AAC where appropriate.
  • Write reports and contribute to EHCP reviews.
  • Train school staff to create a communication-friendly environment.
  • Be part of a SLT team and MDT.

Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for inexperienced band 6 to work in a dynamic and supportive environment. You will work across school settings with a structured mix of clients and support:

  • 3 days per week working in complex needs educational setting (19-25 years) school, as part of an established SLT team
  • 2 days per week in a mainstream school

Role & Responsibilities

As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and provide therapy for children and young people with a range of speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN).
  • This is an Autism and medical complex needs setting (PMLD secondary).
  • Deliver therapy sessions on an individual and group basis, adapting interventions to suit the needs of students.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, parents, and other professionals to support student progress.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies, including the use of AAC where appropriate.
  • Write reports and contribute to EHCP reviews.
  • Provide training and advice to school staff to help create a communication-friendly environment.
  • Be part of a speech and language therapy team and MDT.
What We are Looking For
  • HCPC registered Speech and Language Therapist with a degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Experience working in a special school setting or with children with complex communication needs.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge and experience of AAC
  • Has a minimum of 2 years experience
  • Is passionate about working with children and young people in diverse educational and community settings
  • Brings energy, empathy, and curiosity to their work
