Band 6 Senior Sexual Health Practitioner

Job Introduction

We are launching a new Leicestershire and Rutland Sexual Health Service and are seeking a Band 6 Senior Sexual Health Practitioner to join our team. The role is based at Loughborough Health Centre, with service locations across Rutland, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray, and Coalville. It is a part-time position (1x30 hours and 1x25 hours per week) that involves travel across localities, offering an opportunity to provide confidential sexual health services to the community.

We welcome applications from experienced Band 6 practitioners or Band 5 practitioners seeking promotion, with recognised sexual health competencies (STIF Foundation or Intermediate), DFSRH, and at least 2 years of sexual health experience at Band 5/6. The successful candidate will work autonomously within the sexual health team, developing services in collaboration with colleagues and commissioners.

Main Responsibilities

• Manage and triage patients for sexual health, contraception, and HIV care, escalating as necessary.
• Provide STI/HIV screening, treatment, and partner management following protocols and PGDs.
• Insert and remove contraceptive implants and IUDs after training.
• Promote sexual health through education and interventions.
• Manage caseloads autonomously, ensuring patient choice and care pathways.
• Offer advice, develop care plans, and support clinical leadership.
• Maintain accurate records and uphold governance policies.
• Participate in audits, research, and service development.
• Engage in ongoing professional development.

Candidate Requirements

• Registered Nurse with NMC registration.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience at Band 6 or Band 5 in sexual health.
• Experience with KPIs and SLAs.
• Teaching and mentorship experience.
• FSRH Faculty Diploma in Contraception & STIF Foundation.
• Letters of Competency for Subdermal Implants.
• Symptomatic screening experience.
• Ability to apply research evidence to practice.
• Understanding of intervention models and patient participation factors.
• Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
