This Band 6 rotational respiratory Physiotherapy post is for 21 hours a week, for 12 months maternity cover.
The post holder will work within the inpatient Physiotherapy Team at Torbay Hospital. The post involves working as part of a 7-day service, including weekend shifts once a month, and supporting the on-call service alongside Band 5 staff. The role covers various areas such as ICU, Medical respiratory, Surgical Respiratory, and Paediatrics. The post holder will provide senior leadership in their specialist area and deputize for the Band 7 when required. Responsibilities include providing respiratory care in clinics, outpatient settings, and home visits.
The post requires acting as an expert in assessing and managing patients with a range of respiratory conditions. The post holder will also educate physiotherapists, students, non-registered staff, healthcare professionals, GPs, consultants, patients, and carers.
Collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) is essential for identifying appropriate physiotherapy treatments and discharge planning. The role involves working closely with occupational therapists and discharge coordinators, utilizing current discharge services and procedures.
Additionally, the post involves educating and training physiotherapists, students, and other healthcare professionals in managing respiratory conditions.
Perform all clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining professional and legal accountability, and managing clinical risks. Some tasks will involve working within a multidisciplinary team, and in many cases, being the sole health professional responsible for a patient's episode of care.
Carry out advanced assessments of patients with complex physical, psychological, cognitive, and behavioral conditions to provide accurate diagnosis and prognosis. Develop and deliver individualized physiotherapy treatment plans, including manual therapy, therapeutic handling, patient education, exercise programs (individual and group), respiratory adjuncts, and other options.
Supervision includes formal training, clinical reasoning sessions, and peer review, with support available from senior physiotherapists as needed.
Collect data for service audits and research projects, manage and undertake research in specific clinical areas, and contribute to departmental research initiatives. Make recommendations for practice improvements and implement changes as required.
