Job summary

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse for the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) at Bedford Hospital on a part-time basis (23 hours per week). The post is NHS AfC Band 6, offering a supportive environment and opportunities for leadership within acute medicine.

You will lead a 30-bed AAU, coordinate multidisciplinary colleagues, and ensure safe, high-quality care while supporting professional development and a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• RGN with UK registration and current practice.
• Experience mentoring, assessing and coaching staff.
• Ability to lead, coordinate ward teams and manage a shift.
• Commitment to patient safety and clinical governance.

Responsibilities

• deputise for Ward Manager and coordinate the multidisciplinary team to deliver care.
• Ensure nursing records are accurate and that the clinical condition is communicated clearly.
• Lead the ward in the absence of the Manager and support the nursing team.
• Contribute to service improvement through regular team meetings and collaborative work with stakeholders.
