Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking ODPs to join Theatres at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. You will work with the theatre team to support patients through anaesthetics, surgery and recovery. Roles are available across Emergency, Renal, Burns and Hands theatres.

We welcome experienced ODPs and can provide training to newly qualified applicants. Expect a mix of long days, weekends, on calls and nights within a supportive NHS environment.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse/ODP on the NMC/HCPC Register (essential).
  • Evidence of revalidation with NMC/HCPC.
  • Experience in acute/NHS care settings or recent student placements.

Responsibilities

  • Care for patients in anaesthetics, surgery and recovery.
  • Work within the multi-professional theatre team.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

We are looking for experienced ODPs but training and support can be given to newly qualified ODPs. It's important that you're a caring and kind ODP with a genuine desire to help and support patients during their treatment in theatre. You will also need to be flexible and available to work long days, days, weekends, on calls and nights. Some of these shifts will be depending on the individual theatres.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Adult Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner on the NMC/HCPC Register
  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC/HCPC
Experience
Essential
  • Previous/recent experience of working in an acute / NHS care setting (can include student/ trainee placements within the last 12 months)
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post of on going professional development/competence.
  • Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating others within a team/providing supervision to others
  • Can articulate willingness & demonstrate knowledge in relation to student supervision and assessment
  • (Can include experience as student Nurse registered nurse for newly qualified applicants)
  • Understanding and knowledge of the NMC/HCPC code of conduct
  • Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context in relation to the role
  • Can demonstrate an understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity and how this related to the role
  • Awareness of health and safety issues
Desirable
  • Previous experience working in a theatres environment pre or post registration
