Job summary

Benenden Hospital is seeking a dedicated Theatre Practitioner to join our perioperative team. This role requires an ODP or First Level Nurse with a patient-centred approach to deliver high-quality care across the perioperative pathway.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safety, professionalism and a positive patient experience. You will contribute to preparing patients before, during and after procedures, accurately recording information and maintaining excellent standards

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or HCPC Registered ODP with post-registration experience.
• Strong patient-centred approach and commitment to high-quality care.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Organisational, prioritisation and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency with basic IT and electronic patient records.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate perioperative care.
• Prepare and support patients before, during and after surgery.
• Record and maintain patient information securely in IT systems.
• Ensure safe, clean and appropriate clinical environments.
• Assist with endoscopy procedures when required.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre team to delivering outstanding care.
• Support a positive professional team culture.

About the role

As a Theatre Practitioner, you will:

• Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care for patients throughout the perioperative phase.
• Prepare and support patients before, during and after surgical procedures.
• Accurately record and maintain patient information using relevant IT systems.
• Ensure clinical areas are safe, fit for purpose and maintained to the highest standards.
• Maintain the safe custody, storage and administration of medications and controlled drugs in accordance with policy and legislation.
• Assist with endoscopy procedures when required.
• Work collaboratively with surgeons, anaesthetists and the wider theatre team to deliver exceptional patient care.
• Contribute to maintaining a professional, supportive and positive team environment.

Skills and experience required

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• First Level Registered Nurse (NMC) or HCPC Registered Operating Department Practitioner (ODP).
• Strong patient-centred approach with a commitment to delivering outstanding care.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to organise, prioritise and problem-solve effectively on a case-by-case basis.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and web-based reporting systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
• Commitment to fostering a positive team culture and high standards of professionalism.
• Demonstrable honesty, integrity and ethical practice.
• Post-registration education and/or experience in a relevant theatre speciality, including:
