Job summary

Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 5 staff nurse for an in-patient low secure forensic setting. You will work as part of the nursing team, assess and plan individual care, supervise HCAs, and act as key worker for a group of clients.

Job description

This Band 5 staff nurse post sits at Edward House, an in-patient low secure forensic setting run by Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. The work centres on assessing and planning individual patients' care, acting as key worker for a named group of clients and supervising health care assistants. The service runs around the clock, every day of the year, on shifts, with full and part-time hours considered and job share applications welcomed. Applicants need RMN registration, at least one year of post-graduate experience and completed preceptorship.

What the job involves

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual patients' care with the nursing team
• Supervise staff in assessing patients' condition and deliver individualised care
• Attend to the physical and psychological needs of patients
• Act as key worker for a designated group of clients
• Write and contribute to care plans
• Build therapeutic relationships with clients, relatives and carers, and be aware of carers' needs
• Act as a role model to HCAs, supervising to ensure high-quality care
• Keep accurate, objective, signed records and maintain strict confidentiality
• Supervise discharge and transfer planning under the Care Programme Approach, Community Care Act 1990 and discharge policy
• Work with partner organisations, service users and the multidisciplinary team
• Apply the Mental Health Act 1983 to clients detained in the clinical area
• Comply with NMC requirements and maintain registration
