University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Ophthalmology nurse to join the outpatient team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. You will develop existing skills, work Monday to Friday, and support ophthalmologists in delivering a high-quality outpatient service.

Essential qualifications include NMC registration and ophthalmology/acute NHS experience, with potential supervision responsibilities.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
Ability to revalidate with the NMC as required.
Experience in an acute NHS secondary care setting preferred.
Outpatient/opthalmology experience desirable.
Commitment to safeguarding and patient-centered care.
UK professional registration required.

Responsibilities

Work in outpatient ophthalmology clinics under ophthalmologists.
Lead nursing team in running clinics during weekdays.
Provide supervision and support to junior staff.
Participate in patient assessment and care planning.
Contribute to safeguarding and health and safety practices.

This ia great opportunity for an experienced Ophthalmology nurse to join a dynamic team .To develop existing skills and to use transferable skills working alongside Ophthalmologists to deliver an excellent Out Patient service.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

Out patient clinics where the patient attends to be seen and assessed by Ophthalmologists. .The nursing team facilate the service by running the clinics and working with the Drs .This is a Monday to Friday service .

Esssential skills include Ophthalmology experience of at least 2 years .Out patient experience would be desirable

Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months )
Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others
Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
Understanding of preceptorship and work based learning and assimilation of skills and knowledge
Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context
Understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity
Awareness of health and safety issues
