Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Physiotherapy.
  • HCPC registration is required.
  • GCSE maths and English at grade C or above.
  • A Levels or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in NHS settings (acute or community) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an independent caseload and work autonomously with senior support when needed.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat and manage patients with complex conditions using clinical reasoning.
  • Develop and deliver individualized rehabilitation programmes and monitor progress.

Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for existing physiotherapy staff and new physiotherapy graduates to join our innovative and pro-active Band 5 rotational scheme team rotating across the four sites of the H.G.S. component of the UHB Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for existing physiotherapy staff and new physiotherapy graduates to join our innovative and pro-active Band 5 rotational scheme team rotating across the four sites of the H.G.S. component of the UHB Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will progress through the core specialities of MSK, Neurology and respiratory rotations, working at Good Hope, Heartlands, Solihull Acute and Solihull Community Services and will spend four months in each location consolidating their knowledge and skills working under the supervision of mentors.

The Trust is supportive of staff development and well-being, with teaching and mentoring and 1:1 supervisions being provided across all areas and teams. Additional preceptorship training and support is available for all new registrants. There is the opportunity for peer support and band 5 champions have a direct link to therapy management.

A flexible and organised approach to working is required as Therapy services are committed to seven day working and on call and some shift patterns are based on extended hours.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
  • Manage an independent caseload and take responsibility for a defined clinical area, working autonomously while seeking senior support when required.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with complex conditions using advanced clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice.
  • Develop and deliver individualised rehabilitation programmes, monitor progress, and maintain accurate clinical records.
  • Formulate prognoses, set rehabilitation goals, and coordinate safe, effective discharge planning with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide education, advice, and support to patients, families, carers, and healthcare professionals to promote effective, patient-centred care.
  • Supervise and support therapy support workers, junior staff, and students, contributing to their learning and development.
  • Participate in audit, research, service evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical practice and service delivery.
  • Maintain professional and legal accountability for all aspects of practice, ensuring safe and effective care.
  • Ensure the safe use, maintenance, and monitoring of clinical equipment.
  • Maintain professional competence through CPD, reflective practice, supervision, appraisal, and ongoing professional development.
  • Contribute positively to multidisciplinary team working and the delivery of high-quality rehabilitation services.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Diploma / degree in Physiotherapy
  • Good standard of general education including GCSE maths and English grade C and above.
  • A Levels or equivalent qualification
  • Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
Experience
  • Student placements or qualified clinical work to have provided a broad range of experience in:
  • Respiratory
  • Stroke and Neurology
  • Musculo-skeletal Conditions
  • Older people
  • Evidence of experience as a student or graduate within an NHS setting, acute or community
  • An ability to prioritise and organise own workload
  • An ability to delegate work to assistants and students
  • An ability to cope with a range of options, analyse, compare, find solutions and decide on a course of action
  • Demonstrate an interest in developing expertise within Physiotherapy
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude
  • Able to take a team lead role in the absence of a senior
Desirable
  • Relevant post graduate experience
Additional Criteria
  • An ability to cope with moving/ manoeuvring patients/equipment on a daily basis
  • An ability to frequently concentrate on patient assessments and treatments
  • An ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing / emotional situations
  • An ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Able to contribute to the 7-day weekend service, extended out of hours and overnight on-call Respiratory Physiotherapy service (including NIV).
