Job summary

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistant for the Tamarind Centre, a male medium secure service. You will deliver one-to-one and group interventions, promote independence, and support emotional wellbeing under OT supervision.

Two full-time positions are available. One role includes hospital shop duties on specific days, to be discussed at interview.

Qualifications

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant to work as part of the Tamarind Centre occupational Therapy Department . Tamarind Centre is a male medium secure service providing care for service users with challenging behaviours and a range of clinical presentations.

You would be working with the Occupational Therapy team to deliver one to one interventions as well as in group work and will require practical and creative skills in order to promote independence and to improve overall emotional wellbeing.

Therapeutic interventions are supported by a well-equipped environment which includes a gym, kitchen, education suite, art room, gardens, woodwork shop, library, and group rooms. We have our own forensic community OT team and partnerships that support transitions out into the community.

Please note that there are two full time positions available. There is an expectation that one of the roles will include dedicated hours of the week to be specifically for the hospital shop where our service users access the shop. The successful applicant who will take the hospital shop responsibility will be expected to work on the days that the hospital shop opens. This will be discussed with the successful applicants at interview stage.

You will be supported by the Occupational Therapy team and will receive monthly regular management supervision, caseload management and clinical supervision. Training and development will be provided in line with discussed development reviews.

We would require someone to have NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualification and a good understanding of the role of Occupational Therapy / provision of activities within a mental health setting.
