Job summary

Client Server is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to help build a high-scale distributed messaging platform. You'll work with Go or Node.js to design and implement core services powering real-time infrastructure.

In an AI-first engineering environment, you will own architecture and code quality, optimize performance, and collaborate with the team across low-latency messaging and streaming systems.

Qualifications

• Backend development experience with Go, Node.js, or similar.
• Experience building or operating distributed systems and messaging platforms.
• Understanding of scalability, concurrency, and fault-tolerant design.
• Willingness to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Backend Software Engineer (Go / Node.js Distributed Systems) Remote / Hybrid to £120k + Equity

Are you an experienced Backend Software Engineer who enjoys building distributed systems, real-time infrastructure and solving complex scalability challenges?

You could be progressing your career at a high growth technology company whose messaging platform powers millions of real-time interactions for developers and businesses worldwide.

Your role:

As a Backend Software Engineer, you'll join the team responsible for the core messaging platform that underpins the company's real-time infrastructure. Working on highly scalable distributed systems, you'll design and build new platform capabilities, improve performance and reliability and solve complex engineering problems at scale.

You'll contribute across low latency messaging, Pub/Sub services, state synchronisation and next generation AI communication infrastructure, delivering production grade software used by developers around the globe.

Working in an AI first engineering environment, you'll leverage modern AI tools to accelerate development while retaining full ownership of architecture, code quality and technical decision-making.

Location / WFH:

You can work from most of the time, collaborating via Slack and meeting up with the team at the dog friendly office in North London for tech talks, lunch and learn events etc. around once a month.

About You

• You have strong backend development experience with Go, Node.js or another modern server-side language
• You have experience building or operating distributed systems, messaging platforms, event-driven architectures or streaming technologies
• You understand scalability, concurrency, performance optimisation and fault tolerant system design
• You enjoy solving complex technical challenges and delivering high quality, production ready software
• You're comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced engineering environment
• You embrace modern AI development tools while maintaining a strong focus on engineering quality
• Experience with Pub/Sub platforms, Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, streaming systems, developer platforms or cloud infrastructure would be highly advantageous
