Job summary

Abnormal AI in the United Kingdom is seeking a Software Engineer to help scale our backend platform for Behavioral Security Products. This role blends hands-on coding with owning features and production systems, including AI-powered components, working with senior engineers to improve reliability and reduce latency.

You’ll design and build scalable backend services, integrate ML components, and collaborate with product, design, and ops teams.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of industry experience as a Software Engineer shipping production backend systems.
• Solid backend proficiency in Python with production systems experience.
• Experience with system design fundamentals and building scalable apps.
• Know-how of relational databases and modern data storage.
• Exposure to service-to-service communication and caching is a plus.
• Experience with AWS cloud services and deployment practices.
• Familiarity with containers/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Understanding of monitoring, incident response, and health of services.
• Ability to write design docs and participate in reviews.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and iterate on scalable backend and ML systems, APIs, and internal tools.
• Own well-scoped features with guidance from senior engineers.
• Improve reliability, latency, and production readiness of critical systems.
• Write clean, testable code and handle edge cases.
• Contribute to design discussions and technical documents.
• Participate in reviews and on-call rotations.
• Build LLM-powered features and agentic workflows as part of the platform.
• Integrate AI APIs and agent frameworks with focus on reliability and cost.
