Job summary

Modo Energy is a data platform for energy markets, hiring backend Python engineers to join product teams (Terminal, Data, Ko, Modelling). You’ll build production systems from day one with ownership over what you ship and how.

Design and operate data pipelines that ingest, transform, and serve energy market data at scale; own AWS infrastructure end-to-end using Terraform and develop APIs, CLIs, and tooling. We value fast learners who move across the stack with autonomy in a small, fast-moving

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional Python experience with backend fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).
• Proficiency with Django, FastAPI, or a comparable async Python framework.
• Experience with data pipelines and PostgreSQL at scale.
• Expert-level use of AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar).
• Fast learner with good judgement and ability to ship autonomously across the stack.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs powering a live product for energy professionals.
• Design and operate data pipelines ingesting, transforming, and serving market data at scale.
• Own AWS infrastructure end-to-end using Terraform, from local dev to production.
• Build monitoring, observability, and alerting to detect issues before customers notice.
• Balance shipping new features with maintaining platform health and performance.
• Design internal tools (CLIs, APIs, MCP servers) to speed up teams and enable safe data access for humans and AI agents.
• Collaborate with energy analysts, data scientists, and modellers to ensure data usefulness and accuracy.
• Contribute to infrastructure behind LLM-powered AI Analyst including retrieval pipelines and tool-calling.
