Job summary

Rightmove, London's leading property portal, is seeking a Backend Engineer to join a collaborative, cross-functional team. You’ll design, build and scale services using Java 21+, Spring Boot, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Couchbase, SQL, Docker and Gradle, delivering impactful software for millions of users.

You’ll own features end-to-end, partner with product managers, designers and engineers, and help shape technical direction.

Qualifications

• Commercial experience building backend services with Java 21+ and Spring Boot.
• Experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch and data stores.
• Strong collaboration and ownership, CI/CD and deployment automation.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and enhance services using Java 21+ and related tech.
• Work with Product, Designers, Engineers and stakeholders.
• Own features from idea through production.
• Build secure, scalable software.
• Balance feature delivery with platform improvements.
• Monitor performance, reliability and resilience.
• Contribute to architecture discussions.
• Explore new technologies to create value.
