Job summary

Wise is building a new Account Insights team and seeks a backend engineer to turn millions of transactions into useful insights. You’ll work across backend, mobile, and web with a team of engineers and product partners, contributing to high-throughput data processing and well-documented APIs.

You will own features end-to-end, write high-quality tests, and help improve categorisation accuracy to ensure customer-facing numbers are trusted.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Java/Spring Boot backend development.
• Experience with distributed systems concepts and event streaming.
• Ability to write well-tested, maintainable backend code.
• Willingness to own features end-to-end including testing and deployment.

Responsibilities

• Build the backend behind customer-facing insights features (spending summaries, travel insights, budgets, recurring payments).
• Work with a high-throughput streaming/storage stack (Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, stream processing) to serve data via APIs.
• Improve data categorisation so metrics are trustworthy.
• Own components end-to-end from development to production, including on-call rotation.
• Write tests, maintain clear docs and participate in code reviews.
