Job summary

NHS Blood and Transplant is hiring a Digital Developer to join the Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Product Centre. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and support Azure-based services across NHSBT, tackling complex technical challenges and enabling modern digital solutions.

The role focuses on cloud technologies, DevOps practices, and integration with existing NHSBT systems, offering opportunities to learn, innovate and grow within a specialist digital environment.

Qualifications

• Full software development lifecycle experience with Agile and traditional methods.
• Experience in Azure development or IBM/Oracle stack is desirable.
• Knowledge of estimation methods, UML, HTML, JavaScript, JSON, XML, and unit testing.
• Ability to interpret complex information and resolve issues across the lifecycle.
• Knowledge of IT legislation, including the Data Protection Act, Computer Misuse Act, and FOI.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and support applications and databases.
• Take ownership across the software development lifecycle to solve complex challenges.
• Work with colleagues to turn requirements into practical digital solutions.
• Maintain existing applications with proper documentation and change controls.
• Help integrate new digital solutions with existing NHSBT systems.
• Explore emerging tools and industry best practices for informed use.
• Identify constraints, risks, and deliverability issues and take action.
• Share knowledge through training and transfer of skills.
• Contribute to software, database, and Digital Services strategies.
