Job summary

Scottish Water seeks a Principal Digital Specialist - Principal Data Engineer (Azure) to lead the cloud-based data platform within the Business Analytics team in Scotland. You will set standards, guide data pipelines on Azure, and mentor engineers to ensure high‑quality outcomes.

You will collaborate with data scientists, architects and platform engineers to deliver scalable, secure lakehouse architectures using Azure Data Lake, Fabric and Databricks.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on Data Engineer experience on Microsoft Azure.
• Strong experience with Azure Data Lake, Fabric and Databricks.
• Proficient in Python and SQL; Spark experience desirable.
• Experience in DevOps CI/CD with Azure DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve data engineering standards and guiding technical principles across the Azure data analytics estate.
• Design and assure technical designs for all Analytics platform projects; lead hands-on POC work.
• Gatekeep pull requests in Azure DevOps for production data pipelines and mentor team members.
• Collaborate with analytics, data science, architecture and platform teams to transition solutions into support.
