Job summary

Appvia, a London-based cloud and platform engineering consultancy, seeks an AWS Senior Platform Engineer to design, build and operate secure, scalable AWS platforms for client engagements. You will own technical delivery, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to improve cloud delivery and security.

In this hybrid London role you will advance IaC, CI/CD automation, and cloud-native patterns while helping customers adopt best practices and modern DevOps.

Qualifications

About The Role

As an AWS Senior Platform Engineer, you will be a key contributor to Appvia's platform engineering engagements, working hands-on to design, build, and operate secure, scalable AWS platforms.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working closely with development teams, and contributing to the continuous improvement of cloud platforms and delivery pipelines. You'll operate within multi-disciplinary teams, supporting both application and platform workloads while helping customers adopt modern DevOps and platform engineering practices.

You will be expected to take ownership of technical delivery within your area, contribute to solution design, and support less experienced engineers through mentoring and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

About You

You are a strong AWS engineer with a background in cloud-native infrastructure and DevOps, comfortable working in client-facing environments and contributing directly to delivery.

You will bring:

• Hands-on experience building and operating AWS platforms
• A solid understanding of modern CI/CD and automation practices
• Confidence collaborating with engineers, architects, and delivery leads
• A pragmatic approach to improving reliability, security, and developer experience

Skills & Experience

AWS Platform Engineering: Strong experience designing and operating AWS environments.

• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform experience essential; CloudFormation/CDK beneficial.
• Containers: Experience with Kubernetes and managed services such as EKS.
• CI/CD & DevOps: Solid understanding of Git-based workflows, pipelines, and automation.
• Networking: Experience working with AWS networking constructs (VPCs, load balancing, connectivity).

Delivery & Collaboration

• Experience delivering cloud migration, optimisation, or platform initiatives.
• Comfortable working in consulting or customer-facing roles.
• Able to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate across teams.
• A mindset of continuous learning and improvement.

Qualifications

Certification in relevant cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) at an associate level is highly desirable, e.g.:

• AWS Certified: Solutions Architect Associate
• AWS Certified Advanced Networking - Specialty (highly desirable)

Certification in Kubernetes and Terraform administration is desirable:

• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
• Terraform Associate
