Job summary

Maritime and Coastguard Agency in the United Kingdom seeks a Principal Specialist - Innovation Autonomy to shape regulation for autonomous and remotely operated vessels, MASS. You will lead assessments, safety cases and engineering analyses for emerging technologies, and provide expert guidance to industry and government.

Working with the UK Maritime Innovation Hub and MCA stakeholders, you will drive regulatory strategy, support certification routes, and contribute to future-focused policies

Qualifications

• Experience leading technical assessments, safety cases and systems engineering for emerging technologies.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear guidance for industry and government.
• Experience liaising with industry, government and MCA stakeholders to influence regulatory outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the management of surveys and assurance activities for autonomous vessels and MASS.
• Provide technical, innovative and operational advisory within Tech Ops and the UK Maritime Innovation Hub.
• Lead the preparation of safety cases including for MGN 664 work and related QA processes.
• Support ISO accreditation and readiness for audits.
• Offer detailed technical support to surveyors on complex cases involving new technologies.
• Represent the UK in meetings and draft substantive policy papers.
• Contribute to MCA technical training and business plan objectives.
