Job summary

AtkinsRéalis UK Limited is seeking a senior safety engineer specialising in autonomous and AI-enabled physical systems to lead technically demanding safety assignments across defence platforms.

You will develop and assure safety cases, hazard analyses and assurance arguments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to integrate safety across the engineering lifecycle and support clients in introducing autonomous capabilities safely.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering safety engineering or safety assurance for autonomous or uncrewed systems in defence or safety-critical sectors.
• Experience leading safety cases, safety assessments, hazard-management activities or complex work packages.
• Knowledge of systems engineering and risk management across the lifecycle.
• Ability to develop proportionate safety approaches when evidence or policy is evolving.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety engineering and safety assurance work for autonomous AI-enabled systems.
• Develop and assure safety cases, hazard logs and assurance arguments.
• Apply hazard analysis methods suitable for complex behaviours and human-autonomy interaction.
• Provide evidence-based guidance to clients and regulators.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate safety across lifecycle.
