Job summary

Ellison Institute of Technology in the United Kingdom seeks a Data Engineer for the Scientific Compute and Data team. You will join AutoLabs to automate the discovery loop, handling high-frequency multimodal data across edge-to-cloud telemetry and robotics integrations.

You will work with AI researchers, software and robotics engineers to build robust data layers, ensuring reproducibility and scalable pipelines for model training and evaluation.

Qualifications

• Strong programming experience in Python with a focus on reliability and performance.
• Systems thinking: own end-to-end data pipelines from device output to APIs.
• Experience with real-time data streaming (Kafka, Pub/Sub or equivalent).
• Reproducibility, version control, schema design and data lineage are essential for good science.
• Clear communicator able to collaborate with scientists, robotics engineers and researchers.

Responsibilities

• Build high-throughput, low-latency ingestion for live video, sensor telemetry, robot data and instrument signals, validating at the edge before cloud ingestion.
• Work across edge-to-cloud stack: edge devices, MQTT, Kafka, cloud storage and APIs for researchers and ML pipelines.
• Turn streams into structured transactions and build knowledge graphs linking inputs to results.
• Prepare outputs for model training: formats, labeling, provenance for training/evaluation.
• Collaborate with AI researchers and engineers to ensure robust, scalable data systems.
