Job summary

Southend University Hospital NHS Trust is seeking an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit. You will work autonomously, assess and manage patients, order investigations, and support the multidisciplinary team across the patient’s surgical journey.

Based in the SDEC, you will apply evidence-based care, develop treatment plans, and contribute to delivery of high-quality local and specialist services within a collaborative trust environment.

Qualifications

• Autonomous Advanced Clinical Practitioner capable of independent assessment and decision-making.
• Evidence-based clinical knowledge aligned with guidelines.
• Strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Be based in the Surgical SDEC unit as part of the surgical workforce.
• Use physical assessment to contribute to diagnosis on emergency presentations.
• Order relevant investigations and review results to aid diagnosis.
• Provide information and advice to patients, carers and team throughout the surgical journey.
• Independently assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments for surgical patients.
