Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to join the Blue Bear team in Bedfordshire. You will develop, test and maintain safety-critical flight software for autonomous systems, including flight control laws and data processing algorithms, using MATLAB/Simulink.

Responsibilities include requirements definition, verification and validation, deploying software to target hardware, and conducting real-world flight tests at our test facility nearby.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics.
• Experience in MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms.
• Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: Guidance, navigation and control algorithms for UAVs.
• Knowledge of sensing systems and state estimation.
• Hands-on experience with small UAS.
• Knowledge of MATLAB toolboxes: Stateflow, Simulink Coder, Embedded Coder.
• Experience with embedded and real-time systems.
• Knowledge of communication systems.
• DO-178/ED-20x standards experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop safety-critical flight control software and data processing algorithms.
• Define requirements and perform verification and validation.
• Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight tests.
• Present findings in reports or customer-facing presentations.
• Contribute to standard operating procedures and continuous improvement.
