Job summary

Coleg Sir Gar's Motor Vehicle team at Pibwrlwyd Campus is seeking a proactive Technician in Motor Vehicle (0.8) to support the delivery of practical learning. You will help maintain workshops, vehicles, tools and equipment to a high standard, ensuring a safe, well‑organised and industry‑relevant learning environment for learners.

Reporting to the Head of Curriculum, you will work with teaching staff, keep Health and Safety documentation up to date, manage stock and stores, order supplies, and

Qualifications

• Minimum VCQ / NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
• GCSE English and Maths at minimum Grade C (or O Level equivalent).
• IOSH Managing Safely (or willingness to undertake training).
• Appropriate Health & Safety training (or willingness to undertake).
• First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.
• Recent and relevant experience in the automotive field.
• Good understanding of technical support in Further & Higher Education.
• Industry experience working in an automotive workshop environment.
• Competence with automotive workshop equipment (eg. four wheel aligner, diagnostic tools).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines; flexible.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance and support for teaching and learning in your area.
• Maintain a clean, safe workshop environment in line with Health & Safety regulations.
• Prepare and update Health & Safety documentation (Risk Assessments, COSHH, Safe Systems).
• Maintain, upgrade and service equipment and vehicles as required.
• Care for and securely store course equipment and stock after sessions.
• Maintain stores inventory for consumables and equipment.
• Order stock and update online ordering databases.
• Provide stores issue and returns services for department equipment.
• Participate in course teams, student committees and curriculum meetings.
• Support marketing and promotion of the course programme.
• Assist lecturers and students in workshop-based activities per timetable.
