Job summary

Expleo is seeking an Automotive Systems Engineer to collaborate with an OEM client in Preston, UK, to define system architecture and write system level requirements.

You will develop requirements in DOORS NXG, ensure robust ECU communication with SAE J1939/J1979, and support test plans from lab to vehicle level.

This role offers the opportunity to shape safety and cybersecurity considerations across embedded automotive systems and to contribute to ongoing innovative projects.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree required.
• Chartered engineer status preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret feature requests into technical concepts with Feasibility, cost, weight, timing considerations.
• Develop functional requirements in DOORS NXG ensuring they are testable.
• Ensure robust ECU communications using SAE J1939/J1979 and CAN traces.
• Prepare and execute test plans at Labcar and vehicle levels.
• Support client on product quality issues by reviewing requirements and CAN traces.

We are looking for an Automotive Systems Engineer to collaborate with the OEM client in defining system architecture and writing system level requirements.

Responsibilities

• Interpret new feature requests from Marketing and translate them into a technical concept, conducting feasibility studies that account for cost, weight, timing, packaging, and harnessing.
• Develop new functional requirements in DOORS NXG, ensuring they are clearly defined and testable.
• Ensure robust ECU communications by applying industry best practices, including SAE J1939 and J1979.
• Prepare and execute test plans at both Labcar and vehicle level.
• Support the client on current product quality issues, including the review of requirements and/or CAN traces.

Qualifications

• Engineering Degree in applicable discipline.
• A chartered member of a relevant association.

Essential skills

• Demonstrated strong understanding of vehicle electrical architecture.
• Ability to define systems clearly and concisely through requirements captured in DOORS NXG or an equivalent tool.
• Good working knowledge of Functional Safety and Cybersecurity principles.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to chair meetings with company stakeholders and report status and progress effectively.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to take initiative in an environment with limited established processes and to design confidently from a 'clean sheet of paper'.
• Valid UK driving licence or equivalent.

Experience

• Extensive experience as a Systems Engineer, developing electric vehicle systems through the full lifecycle, from concept to launch.
• Experience with CAN protocols such as SAE J1939 and J1979.
• Experience with diagnostic protocols such as UDS (ISO 14229)
• Experience with Rhapsody is desirable.
• Experience of commercial vehicle electrical systems.
