Job summary

UPS is seeking an Automation Technician at East Midlands Airport to maintain a fully automated sortation facility. You will work with conveyors, scanners, PLC-controlled systems and related electrical/mechanical components to keep operations running smoothly.

The role combines hands-on engineering with administrative duties, offering ongoing training, progression, and a modern automated working environment within a high-speed logistics setting.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in Automation, Robotics, or Control Systems; BSc preferred.
• Experience in team leadership or supervisory roles.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and diagrams.
• Background in automated environments (warehousing/logistics/manufacturing).
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Familiarity with conveyors, sorters, motors, sensors, drives; PLC systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of engineers and clerks.
• Prioritise maintenance activities and allocate tasks.
• Perform planned preventive maintenance on automation systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and control faults.
• Respond rapidly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Maintain and troubleshoot conveyors, motors, sensors, VFDs, scanners, pneumatics.
• Ensure compliance with health & safety standards.
• Maintain records using CMMS/Maximo and support installation and commissioning.
