Job description

We are now recruiting for Pool Automation Maintenance Engineers at our Chelmsford Mail Centre, Winsford Way, CHELMSFORD. CM2 5AA site.

Contract: Permanent

Salary/Hours: To be confirmed at the offer stage

The role covers a 24/7 shift pattern.

The successful candidate will be required to follow the Chelmsford Mail Centre shift rotation system, with some voluntary flexibility to meet our 24/7 operational needs, including voluntary overtime and occasional shift pattern flexibility.

This role is a Pool position, requiring adaptability and flexibility to step in for other Technicians during their leave or sick leave. When not covering, you will follow the shift rota.

The role will cover early, late, and night shifts.

The Role

Responsible for ensuring the availability and performance of automation assets through effective maintenance procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Performing maintenance tasks, including preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance
  2. Conducting continuous improvement activities
  3. Providing support to the Engineering Manager, Maintenance Team Leader, and Engineering Team Coaches, including completing shift reports, fault logging, and data entry
  4. Identifying root causes of automation breakdowns and prioritizing corrective actions
  5. Monitoring equipment performance and collaborating with operational stakeholders to improve automation outputs
  6. Leading Continuous Improvement projects from conception to implementation for machinery in the Hub/Mail Centre
  7. Working independently and as part of a team to achieve goals
About you

You should be an experienced multi-skilled engineer qualified in electrical and mechanical engineering (minimum ONC Electrical Engineering / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent). You should understand Health & Safety legislation, have experience maintaining automation equipment, and possess a flexible approach with strong communication skills.

A full UK driving licence is required, as travel to other sites may be necessary.
