Job summary

Yolk Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Automation & Controls Engineer to join a forward-thinking manufacturing site in Shaftesbury. In this role you will support and develop the site's automation infrastructure while driving engineering improvements across the factory.

You will maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA and drive capital projects from concept to completion, with a focus on reliability, efficiency and safe project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Engineering qualification in Electrical, Automation or Controls.
  • Experience programming and fault finding PLC, HMI and SCADA.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills in an automated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience delivering automation improvements and supporting capital projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and across multiple departments.

Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain PLC, HMI, SCADA and variable speed drive systems across the site.
  • Provide automation support during complex plant breakdowns and electrical fault finding.
  • Design, modify and commissioning automation and electrical control systems.
  • Support process improvements, including electrical panel design, P&ID development and commissioning activities.
  • Leading and supporting capital investment projects from concept through to completion.
  • Identifying and implementing automation improvements to improve reliability, efficiency and production performance.
  • Researching and introducing new technologies that support the site's long-term engineering strategy.
  • Working closely with production, engineering and contractors to deliver successful projects safely and efficiently.

This is what you'll be doing

As an Automation & Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and developing the site's automation infrastructure while driving engineering improvements across the factory.

  • Supporting and maintaining PLC, HMI, SCADA and variable speed drive systems across the site.
  • Providing specialist automation support during complex plant breakdowns and electrical fault finding.
  • Designing, modifying and commissioning automation and electrical control systems.
  • Supporting process improvements, including electrical panel design, P&ID development and commissioning activities.
  • Leading and supporting capital investment projects from concept through to completion.
  • Identifying and implementing automation improvements to improve reliability, efficiency and production performance.

What you’ll need to succeed
  • Engineering qualification within Electrical, Automation or Controls Engineering.
  • Previous experience programming and fault finding PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Strong electrical fault-finding skills within an automated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience delivering automation improvements and supporting capital projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple departments.
  • Contractor management experience would be advantageous.
