Job summary

Yolk Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a UK manufacturer to appoint an experienced Automation & Controls Engineer in Shaftesbury. You will maintain PLC, HMI and SCADA systems and drive site-wide automation improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.

The role is Monday to Friday days with a circa £52,000 salary, pension, holidays, and opportunities to lead capital projects in a modern facility investing in automation and technology.

Qualifications

• Engineering qualification within Electrical, Automation or Controls Engineering.
• Experience programming and fault finding PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
• Strong electrical fault-finding skills in automated manufacturing.
• Experience delivering automation improvements and supporting capital projects.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with multiple departments.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining PLC, HMI, SCADA and variable speed drive systems across the site.
• Providing automation support during plant faults and electrical issues.
• Designing, modifying and commissioning automation and electrical control systems.
• Supporting process improvements, including electrical panel design and P&ID work.
• Leading and supporting capital investment projects from concept to completion.
• Identifying automation improvements to boost reliability and efficiency.
• Researching and adopting new technologies to support long-term strategy.
• Collaborating with production, engineering and contractors to deliver projects safely.

This is what you'll be doing

As an Automation & Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting and developing the site's automation infrastructure while driving engineering improvements across the factory.

Responsibilities:

• Supporting and maintaining PLC, HMI, SCADA and variable speed drive systems across the site.
• Providing specialist automation support during complex plant breakdowns and electrical fault finding.
• Designing, modifying and commissioning automation and electrical control systems.
• Supporting process improvements, including electrical panel design, P&ID development and commissioning activities.
• Leading and supporting capital investment projects from concept through to completion.
• Identifying and implementing automation improvements to improve reliability, efficiency and production performance.
• Researching and introducing new technologies that support the site's long-term engineering strategy.
• Working closely with production, engineering and contractors to deliver successful projects safely and efficiently.

What you'll need to succeed

• Engineering qualification within Electrical, Automation or Controls Engineering.
• Previous experience programming and fault finding PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
• Strong electrical fault-finding skills within an automated manufacturing environment.
• Experience delivering automation improvements and supporting capital projects.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple departments.
• Contractor management experience would be advantageous.
