Job summary

Protocol Education are seeking an Autism Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist SEND setting in Sunderland. The role would suit someone who understands that every pupil communicates and learns differently and is confident adapting their approach to meet individual needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children or young people, with Autism/SEND experience desirable, and a DBS check or willingness to apply for one.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people.
• Experience of Autism/SEND is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply for one.
• A positive and flexible approach.
• Strong communication skills.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalised 1:1 and small-group support
• Support pupils with Autism and associated additional needs
• Encourage communication and social development
• Help pupils access classroom activities
• Support sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing
• Follow individual support and behaviour plans
• Encourage independence and life skills
• Work alongside teachers, therapists and wider support staff
• Celebrate progress, however big or small
