Job summary

Aspire People is seeking an Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Rochdale on a full-time basis. You will provide dedicated support for pupils with autism to access learning, develop communication skills, and engage in school life.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group work, using autism-friendly strategies and collaborating with teachers and SENCOs. Team Teach or similar training is required, and eligibility to work in the UK must be met.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting pupils with autism.
  • Team Teach or similar positive handling training.
  • Full-time availability, Monday to Friday.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Fluent spoken and written English.
  • Willingness to complete safeguarding and vetting checks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with autism
  • Support pupils to access learning activities and classroom routines
  • Use autism-friendly strategies and approaches to promote engagement
  • Assist with communication and social interaction skills
  • Implement behaviour support plans and agreed intervention strategies
  • Support emotional regulation and help pupils manage challenging situations
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and wider support staff
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive outcomes
