A secondary school in Barnet is seeking an Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated Autism Support Provisions Unit. The role involves supporting students with Autism Spectrum Condition both individually and in groups, partnering closely with teachers and parents to enhance pupil engagement. Experience in SEN is preferred, but candidates eager to learn will also be considered.
We are currently seeking an Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated Autism Support Provisions Unit within a secondary school in Barnet.
The Role
In this role, you will support pupils diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition on a 1:1 and group basis. Your responsibilities will include supporting pupils across various classes and learning activities, building positive relationships, establishing routines, and ensuring the learning environment is suitable. You should have a good basic understanding of autism, effective communication skills, and the ability to integrate pupils' interests. You will work closely with teachers and parents/carers and participate in assessments and reporting in line with children’s Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP).
The school prefers candidates with experience supporting students with autism but welcomes applications from other teaching assistants and graduates eager to gain SEN experience.
The School
The Special Resource Provision caters to pupils with a primary diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) as outlined in their EHCP. Located within a larger Barnet secondary school, the provision accommodates up to 7 pupils per year group. The school is accessible via Cockfosters and High Barnet Underground Stations, and by car.
