Job summary

Aspire People is recruiting an Autism Support Teaching Assistant for a full-time, term-time role at a primary school in Bury. You will support autistic pupils with communication, learning access and positive behaviour strategies across the day.

The successful candidate will have experience with autism, be patient and proactive, and able to work closely with teachers, SENCO and families. The role offers term-time hours, weekly schedule Monday to Friday and pay up to 120 per day.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience supporting children with autism.
  • Strong understanding of autism and associated needs.
  • Ability to build positive trusting relationships with students.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored support for pupils with autism within a primary school setting.
  • Assist pupils in accessing classroom activities and the wider curriculum.
  • Implement sensory and communication strategies as directed by school staff.
  • Support pupils during transitions, playtimes and less structured parts of the day.
  • Follow behaviour support plans and risk assessments.
  • Encourage social interaction, independence and confidence.
  • Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals.
  • Provide detailed feedback on pupil progress and engagement.

Autism Support Teaching Assistant - Bury

Hours: Full Time, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only

Pay: Up to 120 per day (dependent on experience)

Aspire People is working in partnership with a primary school in Bury to recruit a dedicated Autism Support Teaching Assistant. This full-time position will involve supporting pupils with autism who require additional assistance to access learning, communicate effectively and engage positively within the classroom environment.

The school is looking for a patient, resilient and proactive individual who understands the importance of consistency, structure and positive relationships when supporting autistic pupils.

As an Autism Support Teaching Assistant, you will provide targeted support throughout the school day, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their individual targets. You may be supporting a specific pupil on a 1:1 basis or working with a small number of pupils with autism across the classroom.

The successful candidate will be expected to support pupils with communication, emotional regulation, sensory needs and transitions between activities. Some pupils may present with behaviours associated with frustration or difficulties with communication, so a calm and confident approach is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Previous experience working with children with autism
  • A strong understanding of autism and associated needs
  • Experience supporting communication and emotional regulation
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships
  • Confidence working both independently and as part of a wider team
Essential Requirements
  • Demonstrable experience supporting children with autism
  • Team Teach training or a comparable positive handling/de-escalation qualification
  • Full-time availability, Monday to Friday
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Willingness to complete safeguarding and pre-employment checks
