Job summary

Academics in Thatcham is seeking an Autism Support professional to join a specialist school. This 1:1 and small-group role focuses on helping pupils access learning, develop communication skills and build confidence.

You will work closely with teachers and support staff, align with routines, support sensory needs and emotional regulation, and encourage positive behaviour. Training is provided and ASAP start.

Qualifications

• Experience in education, childcare, care, youth work or support work is suitable.
• Previous experience working with autistic children or young people is highly desirable.
• Passion for supporting pupils with additional needs is important.
• Training and ongoing support are provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 and small group support to pupils with ASD.
• Support communication, interaction and social development.
• Help pupils manage sensory needs and emotional regulation.
• Implement structured routines and individualised strategies.
• Encourage positive behaviour and engagement.
• Support pupils to access lessons and wider school activities.
• Build trusting relationships with pupils.
• Collaborate with teachers and other support professionals.
