Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated SEN TA for a small specialist provision in Luton/Central Bedfordshire, starting in September. You will support pupils aged 4-11 with autism and additional needs, delivering 1:1 and small-group assistance.

The role requires a patient, flexible approach, strong communication, and ability to adapt activities to individual needs, helping pupils access a personalised curriculum and develop independence.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in SEN or specialist settings.
  • Experience supporting autistic learners and those with ASC.
  • Understanding of sensory processing and communication needs.
  • Experience supporting learners with moderate to severe difficulties.
  • Patient, nurturing and compassionate approach.
  • Strong communication skills adaptable to individual pupils.
  • Ability to remain calm and consistent when pupils are distressed.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils aged 4-11 with autism and additional learning needs.
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support in class and wider school.
  • Assist with communication, social interaction and engagement.
  • Adapt activities to individual needs and learning styles.
  • Support sensory processing and emotional regulation.
  • Assist with transitions and routine changes.
  • Use positive methods to support behaviour and engagement.
  • Encourage development of confidence, communication and independence.
  • Support targets and EHCP outcomes.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCo, therapists and other professionals.
  • Maintain a calm, safe learning environment and safeguarding pupils.
