Job summary

Witherslack Group’s Lavender Lodge School in Mitcham seeks a passionate Teacher to work with autistic pupils aged 4–11, delivering a bespoke, accessible curriculum. You’ll join a supportive team and contribute to a positive learning environment.

You will collaborate with in-house psychologists, therapy professionals and teaching assistants to support learning, behaviour, communication and self-esteem, while upholding high standards.

Qualifications

• Must have worked with pupils who are autistic and have previous experience of this.
• Needs to be able to communicate in a variety of ways as 70% of our pupils are non-verbal e.g. can use Makaton, PECs.
• Have worked with pupils who display challenging behaviour and will support pupils to manage their behaviour and understand the function of the behaviour.
• Be flexible to work with pupils from 4 through to 11 years old.
• Be able to think outside the box in regards to delivering lessons with a bespoke and accessible curriculum.
• Awareness of autism strategies such as TEACCH and PODD and able to use them in practice.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons for pupils with autism.
• Collaborate with in-house psychologists, teaching assistants and therapy professionals to support learning and wellbeing.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse needs and promote self-esteem.
• Monitor pupil progress and contribute to individual education plans.
