Job summary

Witherslack Group is seeking a dedicated teacher for Lavender Lodge School in Mitcham, London. You will work with Autistic pupils and those with SEMH needs, delivering an accessible, bespoke curriculum and using TEACCH and PODD strategies to support communication and learning.

You will join a well-resourced team with extensive in-house support and opportunities for professional development within a respected specialist education provider.

Qualifications

• Must have worked with pupils who are autistic and have previous experience of this.
• Needs to be able to communicate in a variety of ways as 70% of our pupils are non‑verbal e.g. can use Makaton, PECs, PODD.
• Have worked with pupils who display challenging behaviour and would have the will to support pupils to manage their behaviour and understand the function of the behaviour.
• Be flexible to work with pupils from 4 through to 11 years old.
• Be able to think outside the box in regards to delivering lessons with a bespoke and accessible curriculum.
• Have an awareness of autism strategies such as TEACCH, attention autism and use of PODD and be able to use these in practise.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging lessons for pupils with Autism and SEMH needs.
• Implement individualised strategies to support communication and learning.
• Collaborate with in-house psychologists, teaching assistants and therapy staff.
• Contribute to a bespoke, accessible curriculum across year groups.
